The firm’s Founder and President/CEO Mr. Gary Peterson (Chief of Police, Ret.) had a 26-year career in the public sector serving as an appointed Chief of Police for the City of Martinez in the San Francisco Bay Area. Mr. Peterson was known for his strong leadership and commitment to community engagement and collaboration. After retiring from law enforcement, Mr. Peterson joined a mid-sized consulting firm where he focused on expanding the firms’ public safety practice.
Mr. Peterson has recruited a broad range of senior executives for municipalities, special districts and universities. His prior placements include the following positions: City Manager, Chief of Police, City Attorney, General Manager, Vice President of Human Resources, Vice President of Business and Finance, Administrative Service Director, Director of Finance, and Public Works Director.
Mr. Peterson’s experience recruiting for Police Chiefs is vast and his national network of potential candidates is deep. In just the past year, he has directed several major city police chief searches.
Mr. Peterson holds a Juris Doctor from John F. Kennedy University, School of Law in Orinda, California, a Master of Science in Criminal Justice from California State University, Sacramento and a Bachelors of Arts in Sociology from the University of California, Riverside. He is a graduate of both the FBI National Academy and the Senior Management Institute for Police in Boston, Massachusetts (SMIP).
