Director of Public Safety
A national search is underway to identify highly qualified candidates to lead the City of Rohnert Park Public Safety Department. Under the department’s service model, all public safety officers are fully-qualified police officers and firefighters. This is an exceptional opportunity for a strong leader to work with the City Manager to make positive organizational changes to improve a quality organization. The next Director will be results-oriented and a strategic manager who will work effectively and collaboratively to bring a high level of expertise, credibility, accountability, and passion for providing public safety services to the community. The strongest candidates will have excellent communications skills both internally and in the community. The new Director will assume responsibility for a department with 88.5 employees, including more than 71 authorized sworn public safety officers, 18 civilians and a $20.7 million budget. This position requires a minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in public safety, including at least two (2) years in a management capacity. A Master’s degree is highly desired as is graduation from the FBI National Academy, Major City Chiefs – PELI Program, or SMIP. This position also requires possession of a management certificate issued by the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) within one year of appointment. The salary for this at-will position is up to $185,300 and will be commensurate with the qualifications of the selected candidate. Additional POST Certification stipend up to 8.5 % depending on the level of certification.
